Edward Furlong Avoids More Jail Time, Gets Five Years of Probation

Fallen star Edward Furlong, for all the multiple arrests and court cases that have pulled him down over the years, got a lucky break. The 35-year-old former teen heart throb,being held and tried in court for assaulting his ex-girlfriend, was able to cut a deal with prosecutors and in the process avoided more jail time than he already had spent so far.For pleading no contest to domestic violence charges on Monday at the Los Angeles Superior Court, the "Terminator 2: Judgement Day" star got six other charges against him dismissed as a result of the plea bargain agreement. He was supposed to spend 61 days in jail for his offenses but was credited for time served.Instead, Furlong was sentenced to five years probation and was directed to undergo 90 days of drug treatment and complete 52 weeks of domestic violence counseling. Additionally, he was ordered by the superior court commissioner to avoid all contact with his victim for the entire term of his probation, subject for review in the next three months.The award-winning actor was arrested for attacking his ex-girlfriend in her West Hollywood apartment back in May, despite the existence of a protective order she already lodged against him. Furlonghas been slapped with multiple restraining orders in the past by hispartners as he consistently struggled with heroin and cocaine addiction.
