Brad Pitt Reveals His Past as a Drug Addict

 

Attending Los Angeles' screening of "The House I Live In" on Friday, October 12, Brad Pitt told the press about being a drug junky in past. He said laughingly, "I'm Brad Pitt and I'm a drug addict." Moreover, he thought that the the drug war was never a success.

Pitt admitted, "My drug days are long since passed, but it's certainly true that I could probably land in any city in any state and get you whatever you wanted." Then, he continued, "I could find anything you were looking for. Give me 24 hours or so. And yet we still support this charade called the drug war." Next, he opposed the idea of drug war, "We have spent a trillion dollars. It's lasted for over 40 years. A lot of people have lost their live for it. And yet we still talk about it like it's this success."

Before the screening, Pitt discussed the drug war with Reuters, "It's such bad strategy. It makes no sense. It perpetuates itself. You make a bust, you drive up profit, which makes more people want to get into it." Next, he said, "To me, there's no question; we have to rethink this policy and we have to rethink it now."

In another interview with Huffington Post on the same day in the evening, the fiance of Angelina Jolie stated his hope that people would realize that they should make a change. "It's [drug war] criminal in itself. And we've got to look at that. We have to change that," he said.

The "Mr and Mrs. Smith" actor then talked about the solution to stop the war, "The only way to end the war on drugs is to take the profit out of it." He continued, "I know this comes with a whole other host of problems and I don't know if I'm actually presenting it as a reality, but we have to look at the what-if-everything-was-legal and people were allowed to make their own choices."

Later, he stated, "And we were treating it less as a criminal issue and more as a sickness." He also opened up about the reasons why people used drugs, "People do drugs to escape." He went on, "We're not talking about experimentation. People with long-term drug use are escaping."

Pitt works on "The House I Live In" as an executive producer. Eugene Jarecki is the writer and director of the documentary film. The film talks about the the war against drugs in U.S., which is dubbed the longest war of the country. The movie also addresses government's errors and corruptions, which fuels the 40-year-old drug war. The premiere is due to October 5 in U.S.
