Report: Frank Grillo's Crossbones Might Also Appear in 'Avengers 2'

Frank GrilloHot on heels of Frank Grillo's casting as villainous Crossbones in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier", it is now rumored that the actor will possibly reprise his role in another highly-anticipated Marvel movie. Latest report suggests that the 47-year-old actor will make another appearance as the Red Skull henchman in none other than "The Avengers 2".

The rumor was sparked by radio personality Matthew Aaron, the same person who first broke the news about Grillo's casting as Crossbones in the "Captain America: The First Avenger" sequel. During a recent episode of his radio show, Aaron chatted with Grillo, who was in the middle of filming his new pic "Homefront" with Jason Statham, about the supervillain role.

Grillo briefly commented on the part, calling it "a good run" before leaving the chat to "finish beating Jason Statham's ass." After the short interview, Aaron reportedly said that he had some scoops from the same "Marvel rat" that informed him about Grillo's casting. Aaron stated that one of the upcoming films that Crossbones would appear in is Joss Whedon's "The Avengers" sequel.

As quoted by Comic Book Movie, Aaron also revealed that Grillo would tackle the role in three Marvel flicks in total. His last appearance as the supervillain would likely be in the possible third Captain America movie. Should the rumor be true, Crossbones will seemingly not be the major villain in the second Earth's Mightiest Heroes film since it was Thanos which has been reported to be the main antagonist.

Crossbones, who is also known as Brock Rumlow, usually appears as a henchman of the Red Skull. Though he doesn't have any superhuman powers, Crossbones is known as the world's best hand-to-hand combatants. He's also the one who carries out the assassination of Captain America in Marvel comics.

"Captain America: The Winter Soldier" is set to hit the U.S. theaters on April 4, 2014, while "The Avengers 2" will open nationwide a year later on May 1, 2015.
